Water Baptism
What is the purpose of Baptism?
Baptism is an opportunity to go public with your faith, identify with and follow the example of Christ, and move forward in your spiritual journey.
Why do you submerge people under water?
The word “baptism” literally means to immerse under water. It also represents dying to self and coming alive in Christ: you go under the water to identify with Christ’s death and burial (symbolizing death to self) and you come out of the water to identify with Christ’s resurrection (symbolizing your new life in Him—Romans 6:1-4).
Why should I be baptized?
It is an opportunity to obey the Lord Jesus’ command (Matthew 28:18-20), to imitate His example
(Luke 3:21), and to “witness” to others that you are now a Christian
(Acts 2:41).
Is baptism required for salvation?
No. We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, and salvation is a free gift of God that cannot be earned by any good works. Baptism is an act of obedience to Christ
(Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5).
What if I have already been baptized?
If you have been baptized by immersion after making a personal decision to follow Christ, you do not need to be baptized again. If you were baptized as an infant or before you made a personal commitment to follow Christ, then we encourage you to be baptized again to proclaim your faith on your own.
When should someone be baptized?
A person should be baptized after they have trusted in Jesus for forgiveness of their sins. Jesus tells us to make disciples and baptize – in that order. That’s also the pattern we see in the Bible in places like Acts 8:28.
Since we want to be sure that a person being baptized fully understands their decision, we are reluctant to baptize young children. Parents may want to encourage their children to wait until they can make the decision and have an understanding of why they want to be water baptized. All children must be interviewed by the pastor for water baptism approval.
Baptism Procedures
Every few months, we has a special service dedicated to water baptisms, memberships, and child dedications.
Once you’ve submitted this form, we’ll contact you to confirm the date of the next water baptism service.
On the day of your water baptism wear with your jeans or dark colored slacks. Remember to bring a plastic bag for your wet clothing.
